In this phase, my goal was to research the topic, frame the challenge, brainstorm solutions, and establish my goals.
Research & Framing
In my opinion romantic relationships are a significant form of meaningful connection. Light research proved that there is a significant lack of AR applications for dating.
Brainstorming
During the brainstorming phase I thought about the role AR would play in my dating app.
1. How might we use smartphones as a tool to ultimately put them away?
2. How might we make the dating app experience more enjoyable?
3. How might we encourage follow through to the actual date?
Goal
My goal became addressing my new how might we questions. From this, I came up with the incorporation of gaming elements into the dating app experience.
User Research
Surveys and in-person interview methods were used for user research.
Key Insights
Users have various reasons why they like/dislike dating apps but the majority admit to struggling to commit to dates after making matches.
Pain Points
Interviewees did not like using the term game to describe the interactive AR elements and preferred the word adventure.
New Goal
Develop a dating app that uses AR as the engagement tool to physically lead the user to the actual date IRL.
